From there, the coffee drips into the carafe while extracting flavor from your beans. Carafe type matters too. I’ll cover more details on it in the buyer’s guide. But in short, thermal/stainless steel carafes retain heat better. And glass provides a window to see your remaining coffee.

The Zojirushi Zutto is ideal for solo coffee enthusiasts who appreciate a minimalist aesthetic and a perfect fit for small kitchens or office spaces.

It’s worth depends on the user’s priorities and appreciation for its specific strengths.

Every Zojirushi product I’ve owned has outlasted its warranty. Yours can too. So long as you take care of it, regularly clean and descale it, and don’t slap it around.

It’s not wide, so it’ll fit in small kitchens, recreational vehicles (RVs), tiny homes, and studio apartments. So long as you have plenty of vertical clearance or an exposed area like a table to move the machine too.

Why?

You must access the water reservoir by opening the lid in the back. From there, you’ll need to remove the tank or hover a pitcher over it to refill. This seemingly easy task will become stressful if you have low-hanging wall cabinets.

Unlike most coffee makers, you won’t need top access to reach the coffee filter slot. It’s built into the carafe, which I wish was stainless steel instead of glass. Because it would be less fragile and keep drinks warmer for longer.

I also wish there was an auto-on button or programmability. However, the lack of all these buttons makes this an ideal entry-level drip coffee maker. It’ll last a long time, it produces great-tasting coffee, and it’s pretty easy to maintain.

The Cuisinart DCC-5570 is a perfect match for those who appreciate a quick, quiet brew and a clean pour.

Considering the quality, space-saving design, and convenience, the Cuisinart DCC-5570 is worth the price. 

This is one of the thinnest machines I’ve seen, making it ideal for small kitchens without much counter space. It’s a double-edged sword, though. 

Because they put the power button on the machine’s side, which makes it much more difficult to access in some scenarios. For instance, if you surround your coffee maker with other appliances.

I don’t know why they’d put the button on the side, not the front.

If you have a counter with many appliances, how are you supposed to reach the button and the water reservoir without moving the DCC-5570? And when moving it, be careful. Despite having a stainless steel body, many of the components on the body are plastic.

It won’t withstand wear and tear well.

Keep your coffee warm for 30 minutes after brewing with a warming plate. Afterward, the thermal carafe will retain that heat for another couple of hours. Great for sipping on drinks throughout the day.

Weighing its performance and the quality of brew it delivers, the Krups Simply Brew is indeed worth the price.

Simply Brew’s reusable filter prevents you from wasting money on continually buying paper filters. But it isn’t so great for those who use fine grinds. As tiny grinds will often lodge themselves into the mesh.

Or those grounds could get into your drink.

However, such fine grinds are only necessary for anyone who loves black coffee with a strong taste.

It doesn’t work with coffee pods. The same goes for any coffee maker in this list.

The biggest thing that bugs me is the machine’s design. While it’ll fit on countertops without much space, it’s a pain to access. You need a lot of vertical clearance to access the water reservoir and filter.

And once the tank’s full, you have to look on the machine’s side to know its level. How would you see it on a countertop stuffed with other appliances?

The Simply Brew’s hotplate will keep your coffee warm so long as you keep it on. Don’t keep it on there for too long. Leaving it on a hot plate for over 30 minutes may result in it burning your coffee and leaving burn marks on your carafe.

What’s the Pause & Serve function?

I’d list the Bonavita as the number 1 choice if it wasn’t so expensive. The biggest factor that contributes to its price is its Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) approval. That signifies this machine passed various tests and met the SCA’s criteria.

This criterion includes ideal numbers in the following categories [2]:

• Extraction rate: It should extract the flavors from 18–22% of the coffee weight in the basket
• Temperature: 198–205 °F
• Brewing time: Between 4 & 8 minutes.
• Carafe temperature: Should stay around 176–185 °F for the first 30 minutes
• A good user manual: Must provide useful information.

The last point may sound unimportant, but it makes an enormous difference when learning how to use and clean a machine. If you make mistakes because of misreading a poorly written manual, your machine may not last as long as you hope.

Plastic parts of this machine may not last long due to not withstanding wear and tear well. And the carafe lid is a pain to clean due to being difficult to keep it open. However, those don’t sway my overall opinion of this machine.

The lack of programming and other features do. Many other SCA-approved machines include the ability to set it to brew at a specific time. Or temperature/brew strength control and pre-programmed brew types.

But it can make a lot of noise. You’ll need to gauge whether this machine will wake you up with testing. As different noise levels will wake up folks.

Cup sizes seem smaller than they appear. However, that seems like malarkey. Based on my experience, it’ll brew 5 6-oz cups. I mentioned it as a con to have something for you to keep in mind.
